Mahalo Hawaii February 16, 2017 Shank Samlal A Warm Balance Watching the sunlight dance off the textured edges gave a quiet sense of serenity. Sonorous Flow The crisp air filling your lungs, the constant flow resounding in your ear. You're sure to slip into a sentient trance. The Mighty Banyan Captivated by the sinewy vines of a majestic Banyan tree; the roots seem to defy gravity by pulling the earth closer to itself. Deep Inside After ambling through an endless gravel road and tip-toeing through fresh lava rock (still warm to the touch), I witnessed two of natures most magnificent marvels: the Milky Way in all its glory, and a deep gash in the earth which oozed molten lava. A remarkable experience both humbling and awe-inspiring. The Unwavering Rock Countless punishing waves crashing on it's back - yet immaculatly resolute. Honu Lucky enough to encounter this Green Sea Turtle sunbathing on warm Black Sands. Spectacular Farewell Standing 13803 feet atop Mauna Kea, this was unmistakably one of the most (literally) breath-taking views I've witnessed in my lifetime. The Contrast Black Sands, mossy green rocks, and turquoise water against blue skies- quite the color palette! The Contortionist Oddly true, I've always been enamored by the contours and shapes of trees. Rocking on the hammock, watching the sun pierce through it's boughs and branches made me smile. The Hawaiian People I sincerely respect the pride and passion that native Hawaiians embody, and their fierce determination to preserve their culture. One of the warmest, most hospitable people I've encountered thus far (along with Trinis)... Scenic Kauai Kauai I found to be saturated with raw and effortless, natural beauty. Every nook and cranny was virtually picture perfect! Wedge-tailed Shearwater Outside the burrow, this young Shearwater was about to embark on it's next journey: first flight. Wailua Falls TLC got it wrong. You should always be chasing waterfalls because of their thunderous roar, elusive rainbows, and their cool misty updraft. The end. #DoGoChasingWaterfalls Boundless A lone cow grazes in an open field, with an infinite blue sky overhead, and the vast Pacific ocean at its backdrop. Boundless. First Light One of those rare times my will to catch the sunrise surpassed the seductive appeal of the fuzzy blanket. Waipoo Falls A magnificent 800 waterfall nestled deep within the colorful Waimea Canyon. The Real Jurassic Park Blessed to catch a Rainbow off the stunning Na Pali coast in Kauai. Tunnel Vision Scene: Windows down, racing through the undulating Red Road under a beautiful canopy with crashing waves as part of the soundtrack - what an amazing drive! My Happy Place Fast forward past miles of bumpy roads and some precarious stretches of tire-eating terrain, and you'll be rewarded with a pristine stretch of soft white sand, and one glorious piece of Hawaiian Ocean. Luck smiled and I was able to capture the final seconds of last light. Papakolea Beach a.k.a Green Sand beach, one of four such beaches in the world that boasts a mesmerizing green glow in the wake of the sun. A Bountiful Harvest Fruits and vegetables were phenomenally fresh! I may have OD'd on rambutan, passion fruit, and strawberry papaya but it was well worth it. Be sure to get to a market and gorge! Footprints A gentle reminder that like footprints in the sand, our time on this planet is only borrowed so make it count! I'm eternally grateful for being able to set foot on this piece of earth.
